The forecast gods got the calls right on Friday - no wind and lots of sunshine for the Sigma fleet who returned to Rhu Marina for a 2 hour postponement which allowed the crews to escape and grab an icecream or other refreshment. After a boisterous night at the sailing club the previous night, some crews were glad of the rest.
The Race Officer then got Race 4 underway at 4pm with a Westerly 5-10 knots which built through the race. Close Encounters escaped at the pin with a bit of speed and hit the left hand corner followed by Squawk, Leaky Roof II went up the opposite side and bisected the two just before the weather mark with Mayrise just behind Squawk. The fleet behind caught up behind but the top four managed to hold their way for the second lap.
Race 5 got away in slightly stronger conditions but by then the noise of thunderstorms could be hard and rain in various corners of the coast. A 30 degree left shift made the race unfair and the Race Officer abandoned racing for the day - wisely as there was a 180 degree shift five minutes later.
The AGM will be held tonight at 1945 followed by a barbecue at Helensburgh Sailing Club.
